About this part

A thermocouple is a safety device that proves the pilot flame is lit. When heated by the pilot it generates a small voltage that holds the gas valve open; if the flame goes out, the voltage drops and the valve shuts off the gas. A worn thermocouple is one of the most common reasons a pilot won’t stay lit.
